Part of the International Dark-Sky Association Dark Sky Week 2022 On Sunday April 24th as part of the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) Dark Sky week 2022 the Somerset Levels Stargazers who celebrate their 10th Anniversary in 2022 are joining forces with the Commission for Dark Skies (CFDS) and holding a free community event called Dark Skies a day long series of talks focussing on the challenges of Light Pollution and the importance of retaining our dark skies.
Speakers include Bob Mizon MBE FRAS Co-ordinator for the Commission for Dark Skies, Jo Richardson FRAS ESERO-UK founder of The Space Detectives and Resident Astronomer for Exmoor Dark Sky Reserve, Steve Tonkin F.RAS lecturer, author and Dark Skies Adviser, Jim Paterson Dark Skies project adviser Moffat Observatory Scotland and Becky Collier from the Campaign to protect rural England CPRE.. The Somerset Levels Stargazers were founded in 2012 by Paul Adamson (Chairman) and John Martin MBE and hold meetings and special events in the village of Othery on the Somerset Levels, they continued holding Zoom meetings during the Pandemic and now have followers from all over the Country.
We hope you can join us in person for this event which is being held in Othery village hall (see attachments for details) where you will be able to meet and share the day with like minded people but if you are unable or prefer not to the event is also available on Zoom where you can join us for the whole day or link in to individual talks as you like..
